Spring 2008 Agenda
Please feel free to edit your agenda items. If you want to add an agenda item, go ahead but please let Rob Armstrong know. If it seems that your item has disappeared (and we didn't discuss it) look harder, it may have been rearranged into a different slot. If it still doesn't seem to be there, someone (probably Rob) deleted it by mistake. Let Rob know.
Newcomers to the CCA Forum are strongly encouraged to present a short introduction to their research and interests as they relate to the CCA. If you plan to call in to the meeting, please sign yourself up for the phone@cca-forum.org mailing list. This is where coordination will take place, last-minute information will be posted, etc. The signup page is https://www.cca-forum.org/mailman/listinfo/phone.
Please keep an eye on the phone list in case we have to change the MeetingPlace ID during the meeting If you're interested in participating remotely, please email bernholdtde@ornl.gov to indicate what you're interested in. Remote Participation Information
Breakfast: 8am - 9am: Pine room Begin 9:00am local time: Lincoln Room Welcome and Where's the Bathrooms Host: Sameer Shende Introductions Rob Armstrong, SNL The Next CCA Meeting in Washington, DC Next Host: David Bernholdt, ORNL Site Selection and Scheduling for the Meeting One Year from Now Rob Armstrong, SNL TASCS News David Bernholdt, Lois McInnes, Gary Kumfert, Rob Armstrong A brief summary of what's been going on (technically) in TASCS since the last CCA Forum meeting. A Word from our Sponsors David Bernholdt (ORNL) The OASCR Computer Science Program had a meeting at the end of March to provide input for the office's ten year strategic plan. I will provide a brief summary of the meeting, focusing on the Application Development Frameworks topic area. Also, a few other notes from the DOE OASCR office. Current Progress on Developing a Subsurface Simulation Framework Using CCA Bruce Palmer, Yilin Fang, Glenn Hammond, Vidhya Gurumoorthi, Jim Fort (PNNL) We will review recent progress on creating a component framework for subsurface simulations based on the smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) algorithm. Current efforts to develop a similar set of components for continuum simulations built around the STOMP subsurface simulation code will also be discussed. We will also describe the main aspects of our strategy for creating a relatively modular, plug-and-play set of components that contain minimal dependencies on other components. This includes the creation of a universal “dictionary” of data objects, the use of a data manager, and the use of individual input to separate components. Lunch: noon - 1pm: Pine room Signup for Accounts on new CCA Forum Collaboration Server David Bernholdt (ORNL) If you didn't do it at the last meeting, please sign up for an account on the "new" CCA Forum collaboration server at ORNL at http://www.cca-forum.org/accounts/ Approaches and Cost Estimation for Supporting Microsoft Gary Kumfert (LLNL) Gary Kumfert and Tom Epperly spent 3 days at Microsoft's Platform Adoption Center evaluating strategies for supporting Microsoft platforms in Babel. We learned some new tricks there and have assessed CCA's options for adding Microsoft platforms to our list of supported platforms. This talk will enumerate available technical approaches and compare the efforts involved with each approach. PerfExplorer Component for Performance Data Analysis and CQoS Database Components Update Kevin Huck (U. Oregon), Boyana Norris and Li Li (Argonne) Where is the container in the Spec? Ben Allan (SNL) ccacontainers.pdf (125.39 Kb) Ben will reiterate what is possible within the spec today and what tools are (or will be coming) to take advantage of that functionality and what spec changes are required to make those tools fully within the spec. Background: it's mostly old news, specwise Toolkit BOF Rob Armstrong (SNL) This is sort of a call for components BOF. All contributors to the Toolkit will want to attend. The discussion will center on whether it is easier for a particular component to be "bocca"-fied and, if so, how much work that will take and who will do the work. End 5:00pm local time Reception, dinner: Thu 6:30pm - 8pm: Pine Room Remote Participation Information
Begin 9:00am local time Fault Tolerance BOF David Bernholdt (ORNL) A brainstorming session for issues associated with application level fault tolerance in component environments. End 12:00n local time Created by: rob last modification: Sunday 04 of May, 2008 [00:38:44 UTC] by bernhold |
